Blog post #3

My third-week update: the weather has been harsh in Seattle lately which means the busses always have more people on them, trying to escape the rain. Walking to the bus stop is very cold in the morning and if I don't leave the house on time I miss the bus that makes me in time for school. If the project ended today I would continue to use public transportation but not as strictly as now.          I tried to develop a habit of not eating any sweets and it took around a week to develop but I quit it when opportunities came up.  The idea that it takes 21 days to create a habit is crazy because I always thought it took a couple months or maybe years depending on the habit. When I was committed to not eating sugary foods I felt like it would take forever to adjust, but I ended up quitting soon. This article makes me feel motivated to keep trying to lower my personal impact and develop good habits. If I develop a habit of using fewer carbon emissions and using the bus more than

Estimating Impact          My second week using public transportation everywhere was more challenging because it has rained every day this past week from the time I leave the house until the time I am on my way back home. (1)  I think I reduced my environmental impact by a lot by taking the bus everywhere. I need to continue to reduce it and just wear more rain/cold protecting jackets and clothes. I bought an umbrella for the walks to the bus stop and from the bus stop. It is more work to walk and wait for the bus but it lowers my environmental impact rather than driving to school and home. T he average passenger vehicle emits about 404 grams of CO 2  per mile (2) If its 11 miles to get from where I live to downtown Seattle 4,444 grams of  CO 2  or (9 Pounds) If everyone in Seattle took the bus instead of using cars to go everywhere the environment would greatly appreciate it. Perhaps less traffic, fewer car accidents and the city of Seattle would make a lot more money

The first week was a challenge,   If you live in Seattle you know how cold it is in the morning during the month of December.  I would usually hop in the car with the heat kicked on high but I had to walk to the bus stop while it was 32 degrees.  conservation behavior is good for the environment because we want to obtain environmental preservation.  A barrier for me and this new challenge of using public transportation is wanting to be comfortable in my own car rather than having to walk to the bus stop and from the bus stop to school.  For my environmental impact to change I need to commit to not getting in the car and taking the bus everyday. To motivate myself to change and lessen my impact I will also be getting some exercise by walking those extra feet to school. I will cut down on carbon emissions in my moms car and use public transportation more often. Over 68% of carbon emissions come from transportation (2). I use carbon emissions when my mom dri
